Transforming Data into Knowledge
A provider's patient records and image archives are rich digital assets that can be repurposed for a wide range of applications, including clinical trials and outcomes studies, educational case studies, and reference material for decision support. However, current imaging and information systems offer limited support towards using clinical records beyond their primary purposes of interpretation, treatment and billing. Our knowledge management technology can be leveraged to empower clinicians and researchers to collaboratively transform raw clinical data into structured repositories of sharable knowledge. Our customers are able to better harness the power of their existing infrastructure, so they can get work done, quicker and smarter.
BRINGING WEB 2.0 TO MEDICAL IMAGING

Vivalog is a pioneer in the movement towards next-generation web applications that levarage AJAX technology to provide richer user interfaces. For example, our JavaScript file manager allows users to drag and drop files in their web browser as if they were using a desktop application.

DOMAIN SPECIFIC AUTHORING TOOLS
There is a growing need for tools that enable clinicians, researchers, and educators to create and manage multimedia knowledge. The key to effective authoring tools is incorporating object schemas, classification systems, and workflow models that embody the unique domain requirements of each group of users. The authoring tools should be flexible enough that domain experts can tailor the interfaces to their own specifications, such as customizable data collection forms and user-defined structured vocabularies. The Vivalog Knowledge Management Framework is a highly scalable, efficient platform for medical professionals to develop systems that effectively manage the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of their clinical data.
THE CHALLENGES OF CLINICAL DATA SHARING
Collaborative research is hindered by isolated islands of connectivity and lack of fine-grained access control. Hospital firewalls and restrictive policies pose difficulties that are compounded by complex technical, social, political, and legal constraints. Researchers are forced to adopt ad-hoc mechanisms to manage these constraints, often resorting to overly restrictive policies in which all data is withheld from the research community at large. Vivalog is developing software that makes it easy for researchers to overcome these barriers.
